CFA-On-The-Air: From the Forest
Wednesdays 6PM – 7PM
WIOX ROXBURY 91.3FM or www.wioxradio.org
On Wednesday, Nov. 4, From the Forest will be interviewing Professor Thomas Heberlein from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Tom is a professor of Community & Environmental Sociology. He has compared how deer and deer management are managed in other countries – like Sweden – to the US, which manages wildlife under The North American Model. We’ll see what he has to say. Tune in at 91.3 FM or stream online @ www.wioxradio.org to learn more.
WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
Leaves have fallen here in Margaretville; getting some remnants from that hurricane too via scattered showers. Been hunting a little bit too. Anecdotally, I can say there are fewer deer this year, probably due to last year’s harsh winter. You’re probably thinking, “Doesn’t CFA always complain about too many deer eating all the little tree seedlings? And therefore, shouldn’t you be happy there are less deer?” The answer is, even with less deer, there are still the same impacts since less deer keep up with less that grows. Every time I sit in a tree stand, I wonder what I would do if I owned that land. We can have more deer and less impacts if we manage our forests better.
May the forest be with you,
Ryan Trapani
