In 2010 legislation was enacted to strengthen Article 15A of the State’s Executive Law in an effort to eradicate the barriers that have impaired access to State contracting opportunities by minority and women-owned business enterprises (MBE/WBE).
During the New York State MWBE Forum, Governor Cuomo announced the goal of 30% of state contracts going to MWBE contractors during FY2014-2015. This is an increase from 20% during the last fiscal year and 10% when the Governor took office.
Western Catskills Community Revitalization Council, Inc. (WCCRC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of affordable homes and the revitalization of communities. Working in southern Schoharie, western Greene and northern Delaware counties, they work with many general contractors and specialists in the construction field.
As a participant in many State funded grants, WCCRC looks forward to advancing this goal by reaching out to MBE/WBEs in the region to encourage them to bid on building rehabilitation projects which they manage for various state agencies.
In the last 12 months, WCCRC managed over $2.2 million worth of grant-funded home rehabilitation and Main Street Revitalization projects in its 18-town service area. WCCRC invites MBE/WBE businesses to apply to be on their approved contractor list. This list is a part of the information and application package that is distributed to their clients, and includes: architects, engineers, general contractors, plumbers, electricians and more.
If you are a registered MBE/WBE, or if you think you would be eligible to register your business as a MBE/WBE, please contact Kelly at WCCRC at 607-652-2823, ext. 107 or info@westerncatskills.org for more information.
