MURAL is pleased to offer a workshop with artist Susan Rochmis on Saturday, June 24th, from 2-4 pm, at the MURAL on Main Gallery, located at 631 Main Street in Hobart, NY 13788. This experiential workshop will allow participants to explore the techniques which Susan used to create the mixed media artworks featured in MURAL’s current exhibition: “Interwoven.”
Susan Rochmis is an artist and teacher who is a graduate of Pratt Institute with degrees in art and creative arts therapy. In addition, Susan has studied body-work and Buddhism and teaches theatre at SUNY Delhi. Recently, Susan began a daily art practice: using a variety of materials and letting line and color create form and space. This practice allowed her to observe how the process stays alive or is killed by over-thinking.
In this workshop, Susan will briefly demonstrate one of the techniques she worked with in her daily art practice- drawing with pastels on oiled paper. Susan used this method to create many of the vibrant images featured in her exhibition at MURAL. Students will discover how line and color work together in this medium to create luminous layers of art. After the experiential work is done, participants will have time to share their work and discuss their process.
All materials will be provided for this workshop. There is a $10 fee to participate in this workshop. Pre-registration for this workshop is encouraged, as space is limited. To register online, visit the MURAL website: www.muralartgallery.org; to register by phone, call (607)538-3002; or to register in person, visit the gallery during regular gallery hours: Saturdays and Sundays from 12 – 4 pm.
