When he wasn't walking or driving one of the cars Henry Ford gave him, naturalist and author John Burroughs took the train to where he needed to go. This talk, on the lawn at Burroughs' Roxbury retreat, Woodchuck Lodge, will provide an overview of the importance of railroads in Burroughs' time, with anecdotes about Ulster & Delaware depots at Phoenicia and Roxbury (pictured).

Bring lawn chair or blanket. Talk will be under cover if it rains.

Speaker Dakin Morehouse is president of Empire State Railway Museum, housed in the historic Phoenicia station.

Woodchuck Lodge, at 1633 Burroughs Memorial Road, Roxbury, will be open for free tours from 11 to 1 and 2 to 3 on June 4, and again June 5 from 11 to 3. Burroughs' burial place, at John Burroughs Memorial Field State Historic Site, is just a short walk from the Lodge and is open dawn to dusk daily.
