Farmers' markets almost never show up during "mud month," as March is lovingly referred to in the Catskills. But Stamford's winter "pop-up" farm market, sponsored by the Greater Stamford Area Chamber of Commerce, is breaking the mold. Ten local producers will gather at the at the Stamford Railroad Station from 4:30 to 6pm this Thursday to sell their Catskills-made cheese, eggs, yogurt, beef, maple syrup, and beer.
The Watershed Post is a proud sponsor of the pop-up winter market, which is pioneering a new way to support local farmers during the lean season. Check out all the details, and pre-order your food for market pickup, on the event's page in our calendar. Also get a visual of the market's many offerings on its Pinterest page.
Stamford's first winter pop-up market was in February, and was a big success, according to the Mountain Eagle:
With people waiting at the door for the market to open and a steady stream of shoppers making their way through the station, the soup was sold out in less than an hour and vendors saw some impressive sales.
Velga Kundzins-Tan, the president of the Greater Stamford Area Chamber of Commerce, tells us via email that over 100 people showed up at the first-time event in February.
As a Chamber, we were gratified to see the community give such enthusiastic support to our local businesses. We are looking forward to the next pop-up market, which will have a different mixture of vendors. We will be kicking off both St. Patrick's Day and Maple Weekend at this market.
