Sidney Center has water contamination problems. And Dawn Rivers Baker, former candidate for supervisor of Sidney, is angry about it.
Did you know that a sizable chunk of the population of the Town of Sidney does not have access to clean drinking water?
Yes, that’s right. No clean drinking water and we’re not talking about some obscure village on the banks of the Indus River or something. This is right here in upstate New York.
And the Town of Sidney’s government isn’t doing anything about it.
On the bright side: A story in the Daily Star last month reported that a local group got a grant of nearly $100K, from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, to work on improving stream ecology and water quality in Sidney Center:
The Sidney Center group will be receiving $92,996 to prepare a watershed plan to restore and sustain the ecology of the area around Carrs Creek and Willow Brook, according to a release from the Chesapeake Bay Program.
“It was unbelievable,” Joe Lally, chairman of the board of directors of the Sidney Center Improvement Group, said about being chosen. “We are ecstatic.”
