The Times Herald-Record interviewed the man who stopped and picked up Keri Reynolds after alleged murderer Richard Giga stabbed her and left her beside the road in in her crumpled car. Giga kept the town of Ellenville in a panic on Wednesday as he fled police after allegedly killing a security guard at a rehab center in Wawarsing. He then reportedly took Reynolds hostage in her car, eventually stabbing her as she drove and causing the car to crash.
That's where Guy Churchill came in. He was driving by on Ulster Heights Road when he saw Reynolds screaming for help in the middle of the street. He stopped, the THR reports:
"I didn't know what to think — she was real bloody — but I pulled over and began to call 911 when she just dove into the cab of my truck," Churchill, 40, recalled.
"She said she'd been stabbed and that he was coming back for her. I had no clue what she meant, but I locked the door behind her and called 911."
Turns out that Churchill knows what it's like to be in an accident and have other drivers pass you by:
Four years ago, his truck flipped on patch of black ice on Route 52 early one winter morning. "I'll never forget how angry I felt that time. Three cars passed me right by."
