Armed home invasion in Plattekill

Ulster County sheriff's deputies report that a home on Old Unionville Road in Plattekill  was robbed by armed invaders early this morning. Police say that around 4am, two men entered the house armed with handguns, took some property, and struck one resident in the face before fleeing.

While investigating the incident, Ulster County sheriff's deputies searched a house on South Street in Plattekill, and arrested two men there on drug and weapons charges: 30-year-old Roy E. Nugent and 29-year-old Mark A. Orphan, both of Kingston. But neither was charged with any offense related to the burglary, which is still under investigation.

Deputies and Detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office report that they are investigating an armed robbery/home invasion that occurred at approximately 0400 hrs. on 01/02/12 at a residence located on Old Unionville Rd. in the Town of Plattekill.

Detectives state that 2 black males forcibly entered the residence and displayed handguns. One of the residents in the home was struck about the face and head during the robbery and sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment. The perpetrators left the residence with several items of property and fled the area.

Subsequent investigation led Detectives to execute a search warrant at an address on South St. in Plattekill. Two individuals found in the residence were arrested on charges unrelated to the robbery. Those arrested were:

Roy E. Nugent, age 30, of 59 VanBuren St. Kingston NY and Mark A. Orphan, age 29, of 260 Clinton Ave. Kingston, NY. Both men were charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana 2nd (D Felony) and Nugent  was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree (A Misdemeanor). Both were arraigned in Town of Rosendale Court by Judge Pape and Nugent was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail and Orphan was remanded on $5000.00 bail. Both are to reappear in Town of Plattekill Court on January 6th.
