Chris Engel will open a show of his work, "Selections" with a party at Zoom Gallery on New Years Day from 3-5 PM. The gallery is proud to offer work by this distinguished artist who after studying at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and the Art Students League in New York, he was awarded 2 residencies at Byrdcliffe in Woodstock, one of the first art colonies in the United States, along with many well-known artists. Engel has been represented by galleries in Soho, the East Village and Woodstock where he was a member of the Board of Woodstock Art Association and Museum and the winner chosen for best abstract artist at the 2nd Annual Woodstock Regional Art Show. Several of his pieces are currently in collections in Zurich, Seatlle and New York City where he worked for 15 years in the Art Department of "The New York Times."
Engel says that as he now lives in the Catskills he finds that the environment does have some influence on what he does, though he tends to let himself go in whatever directions his materials take him. He basically adheres to some advice given to him by his former teacher, Richard Pousette-Dart, who said, "Let your palette be your guide."
All are welcome to the opening event on January 1, 2014, 3-5 PM, at Zoom Gallery, 1164 Main Street, Fleischmanns, NY 12430, Tel, 845-254-4998. Mr. Engel will be on hand to meet and greet.
