TMTP Returns to the Roxbury Arts Group!

This summer, Todd Mountain Theater Project’s longstanding, fruitful relationship with the Roxbury Arts Group continues, offering an intimate first look at emerging professional theater. From Tuesday through Thursday, June 30th through July 2nd, RAG and TMTP extend an open invitation to the community to drop in, free of charge, to the Roxbury Arts Center at 5025 Vega Mountain Road from 2 to 4 PM and observe TMTP’s summer residency with the New Dramatists Guild, one of the country's leading centers for playwrights. New Dramatists’ Rob Handel, head of the dramatic writing program at Carnegie Mellon University, will be working on a new opera with composer Kamala Sankaram (“strikingly original” – New York Times), and he and his partners are eager to gauge reactions from the public.

Former New Dramatists playwrights include Horton Foote (screenplay for To Kill A Mockingbird) Suzan Lori-Parks (Topdog/Underdog) and John Patrick Shanley (Doubt). Alumni have won 16 Pulitzer Prizes, including 8 of the last 12. During last year's residency, playwright Len Jenkin developed a new work, Jonah, which will be produced in July at the Sundance Theater Lab.

New Dramatists Guild was founded in 1949, and since then, 600 new playwrights have passed through its doors, creating work that has laid the foundation for contemporary American theater. In addition to Handel and Sankaram, this summer's playwrights will be Mia Chung, Clarence Coo, Rob Handel and Melisa Tien.

Todd Mountain Theater Project is dedicated to discovering daring, exciting new plays by contemporary playwrights, and bringing excellent productions to audiences who live, work and unwind in our Catskill communities. Located in Arkville, New York, TMTP been presenting dynamic theater since 1999 at the Roxbury Arts Group. Weaving the talents of urban and rural professionals, their mission is to provide a supportive environment for theater artists to develop and present challenging productions while using the glorious Catskills to rest and refuel.
