Swap Your Seeds!

CALLING ALL GARDENERS

At the end of each planting season, do you tend to wind up with a gazillion unused seed packets? Don't let them go to waste! Bring them to your local library and share them with your fellow gardeners. And while you're there, discover what interesting seeds have been donated by others. You might just find a new all-time favorite.

Here's how it works:

Each library in Delaware County has designated a card catalogue drawer for this event. Seed swappers, bring in your partially used seed packets and file them under the appropriate letter (T for tomato). Next, have a look through the drawer for varieties you might like to try (Z for zinnias). Help yourself to the number of seeds appropriate for your garden space, and place the seeds in a provided envelope.

Final two weeks!

This event has been ongoing since the beginning of April and lots of seeds have been donated, so there's plenty to choose from.  It's a great way to expand your repertoire without spending a fortune. Each library's stock is different, depending on what patrons brought in. Many gardeners buy their seeds online, so you may find unusual and heirloom varieties right next to the standard favorites. The seed swap is a free service offered by Transition Catskills in partnership with the public libraries.
