Lots of stuff on the farm gets reused or recycled and this week has seen a bit of action in that department. Oleh's original garden plot from the 1980s is slowly being transformed into our family kitchen garden... from first practical learning space to first Rusty Plough Farm field, it's been mostly fallow these past few seasons, as we find the time to refresh it. Half of it has been given to the ladies and gents in the chicken coop and some lumber's been pulled out of the barn for raised beds in the other half... after some mowing, of course! Like us and follow the summer's progress.
And as hauling water daily to the chickens from the house isn't fun, we finally set up a small tank in their space, atop a simple wooden stand. Built by Oleh in the '90s as a shelf for the ever-growing collection of kids' toys and books, it was reconfigured ten years later as wood storage by the stove. Just happened to fit in the space!! Now it's been braced with extra bits of wood to hold water on top and offer a shady spot below. We'll let you do the math on how old the kids are now...
