Pine Hill Community Center Seeks Executive Director

The board of the Pine Hill Community Center is searching for an executive director. The executive director is responsible for all activities related to the operation of the Pine Hill Community Center from program development to building operations, from fundraising to budget management. The Center is run by an active Board of Directors and the executive director reports to the Board.

This is an exciting time in our 15-year history. We want to find someone who can build on our successes and help us advance the Center’s role as a unique Central Catskills venue for arts, services to young and old, families and individuals and, most important, as a resource for creating community. A description of the job and qualifications needed are listed below. Interested applicants should email a cover letter and resume to our Board Chair, Jim Nevin (jnevin@mindspring.com) by April 10th.

Please look here: https://vimeo.com/70323360 for a description of our history, philosophy and programs and use your cover letter to say what interests you and what experiences you bring to the Center. The Board will review all applications and interview selected candidates in April. We hope to make a choice in May with a start date in July.

This is the only salaried position at the Center and right now, it is part time (approximately 24 hours/week). Candidates must be able to commit to regular hours that fit with the Center’s peak periods of activity. This will include part of one weekend day and occasional evenings when there are major events at the Center.

We’ve had two executive directors since we started. They would say that this is not only a job. It is a labor of love for community as well. We are looking for someone who has the excitement, enthusiasm and passion for community and is welcoming to everyone interested in the Center’s activities or interested in offering a program at the Center.

This is a job that requires an outgoing personality with strong people and project management skills. While the Center sponsors and runs a few ongoing programs, our main purpose is to support community members who want to create cultural and service-related activities for adults, children and families in the Central Catskills. The executive director is also responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of the building, hiring program presenters, and working closely with other contractors, including a bookkeeper, on budget and financial management.

You need to be comfortable writing and using basic social media tools and learning new ones as they develop. Right now, the job involves postings, updates and photos on our Web and Facebook sites and through regular emails to members.

The Center relies on contributions of time and money from individuals and donors. You must like and be able to fundraise as well as create and support a network of volunteers to help with the Center’s programs and operations. In addition, we look for grant money from foundations and other entities. The Board helps with applications, but we expect the executive director to identify opportunities, help with the writing of proposals and be able to track grants, interested donors and volunteers for programs.

So, are you organized and still like to think out of the box? Are you energetic and not afraid of working with a vision? Do you enjoy being networked with all kinds of people in the Central Catskills? Do you have a passion about the arts, science, building, or books or…? Do you have experience helping others turn their ideas into projects and performances? If you say yes to at least 2 of these questions and find the job of interest, please send us a cover letter and your resume. We look forward to hearing from you!
