Bob Gruen – Rock Seen at The Orphic Gallery

The Teenage Bedroom

Following the sensational opening of Bob Gruen’s Rock Seen exhibit at the Orphic Gallery, visitors there have been amazed by the photographs on display, many highly iconic and others quite intimate and obscure.  At the opening Bob regaled visitors with the back stories to the 46 photos drawn from all stages of his extraordinary career documenting the superstars of the rock & roll world and the luminaries of the NYC punk underground scene.

Particularly of interest to the exhibit’s viewers has been the Teenage Bedroom – an installation recreating a typical teenager’s bedroom with posters, magazine covers and spreads, and album covers, all photographed by Bob Gruen and all available for purchase in various sizes.  The Teenage Bedroom was initially displayed at one of Bob’s shows in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and included in his exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC where it was the most highly photographed work in the entire museum at that time.  In the Orphic Gallery version, the bedroom is complete with a bed and other furnishings, a bedspread with Bob Gruen’s renowned photo of Led Zeppelin in front of their charter jet, and adolescent detritus befitting a misspent youth.

ROCK SEEN will continue at the Orphic Gallery until October 5th and may be seen during the gallery’s normal business hours, Wednesday through Sunday 12 to 5 pm or by appointment.
