The humble cucumber has a celebration all its own this Sunday: the Rosendale Pickle Festival.
This will be the festival's 17th year. Over 6,000 people are expected to come to the Rosendale Community Center seeking a pickle fix, according to the Daily Freeman:
“It’s a pickle festival, so people can come and get any kind of pickle they want and find pickles they never thought existed,” said Bill Brooks, who co-founded the event in 1998 with his wife, Cathy. “We always say the pickle is an excuse to throw a party.”
Pickle-eating and pickle-juice-drinking contests are the main attraction, but there's more to entice visitors, the Brooks say:
“There’s so much to choose from that people who don’t like them can come and never go near a pickle,” Brooks noted.
For those who do like pickles, it'll be dill-icious. (Oh yes, we made that pun.)
