The Ulster County Sheriff's Office has finally made an arrest for the theft of a lawnmower and an ATV from a home at 109 South Road in Ruby last June. The cold case got a fresh lead this Monday, when the lawnmower turned up for sale on Craig's List.
Arrested for the theft on Tuesday: 43-year-old Linda L. Newman, of 111 South Road, next door to the scene of the crime.
Ulster County sheriff's deputies report:
Ms. Newman is alleged to have directed another person to remove the lawnmower from the location despite knowing she had no right to do so. No evidence was found suggesting the other person had any knowledge the lawnmower was not Ms. Newman's.
Newman faces charges of petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal solicitation. She was released on an appearance ticket made returnable in the Town of Ulster Court at a later date.
