New York State closing on Belleayre land sale

State Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner Joe Martens announced yesterday, December 7, that the long-anticipated sale of a 1200-acre parcel of land near the Belleayre Ski Center to the state is at last going through.

The Times-Union reports:

The state will pay $5.6 million from the state Environmental Protection Fund to developers Crossroads Ventures LLC, which has plans for 629 luxury housing units and a golf course as part of its plans for Belleayre Resort. The property will become part of the forever-wild forest preserve, and remain on local property tax rolls.

DEC is still reviewing permits that would allow the long-delayed project to move ahead.

The Times Herald-Record also reports that New York State recently acquired 261 acres in the Hudson Valley, a Putnam County land parcel known as North Hollow:

The site includes watershed of the Haviland Hollow Brook, a pristine trout stream, which connects with the Great Swamp, Croton River and reservoirs in the New York Highlands that provide drinking water to New York City.
