Early Sunday morning, a car struck a tree in the Ulster County town of Rochester, injuring three occupants. Its driver, 20-year-old Matthew Kalaschenkow of Accord, faces DWI, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and various traffic charges.

Matthew Kalaschenkow, 20, of Mettacahonts Road Lot 7, Accord, NY, was arrested following a personal injury automobile accident early Sunday morning on Granite Road in the town of Rochester. Deputies responded to 911 Call reporting a one car accident on Granite Road where three occupants were injured after their vehicle, which was operated by Kalaschenkow, struck a tree and overturned.
Injured in the accident were Kalaschenkow, who suffered head, neck and back injuries, Amanda Graham, 21, of Lucas Avenue, Cottekill, who suffered head trauma, including a severe laceration to the left ear, and Matthew Skeen, 18, State Route 209, Kerhonkson, who suffered an injury to the right shoulder. Skeen was transported to the Kingston Hospital Emergency Room. Both Kalaschenkow and Graham were transported to the Ellenville Hospital and were eventually airlifted to the Albany Medical Center.
Kalaschenkow was charged with Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree, a Class E Felony, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a Class D Felony, Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, Failure to Keep Right and Unlicensed Operation, all traffic infractions. Kalaschenkow is scheduled to appear in the Town of Rochester Court on August 17, 2011 at 6:00pm for arraignment on the charges.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the New York State Police Ellenville Barracks, Accord Fire Department, Kerhonkson-Accord Rescue Squad as well as Mobile Life Support Services.
