School elections: Saugerties and Eldred budgets fail

Yesterday, New Yorkers went to the polls to decide the fate of 2011-2012 school budgets. And, for the most part, the results are in.

In Ulster County, every budget passed except Saugerties, whose budget failed for the second year in a row, 1,631-1,369. [Update: In a really staggeringly boneheaded error, I originally quoted Ulster County results from 2010, when Saugerties and Rondout Valley both rejected their school budgets. Rondout Valley's budget most definitely passed this year. Apologies for the error, and thanks to commenters for pointing it out.]

In Sullivan County, one budget failed: Eldred, 265-247. The fate of Monticello's budget is up in the air, with an election still too close to call.

In Delaware, Greene, and Schoharie Counties, all budgets passed.

The Daily Star has results (but no vote tallies) for Afton, Andes, Bainbridge-Guilford, Charlotte Valley, Cherry Valley-Springfield, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Cooperstown, Downsville, Edmeston, Franklin  , Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, Gilboa-Conesville, Hancock, Jefferson, Laurens, Margaretville, Middleburgh, Milford, Morris, Norwich, Oneonta, Oxford, Richfield Springs, Roxbury, Schenevus, Schoharie, Sidney, South Kortright, Stamford, Unadilla Valley, Unatego, Walton, and Worcester. (All passed except Worcester.)

We made a few calls on schools whose results we couldn't find online:

Delhi. The budget passed 232-59, a school bus proposition passed 207-75, and two unopposed school board candidates were elected: Tammy Neumann (245 votes) and Glen Nealis (237 votes).

Sharon Springs. Budget passed passed 182 to 65, a school bus proposition passed 156-90, and a three-way race for an open school board seat was won by Dorothy Harding (106 votes), who defeated opponents Chester Pinder (61 votes) and John DeGiovanni (69 votes).

The Daily Mail on Cairo-Durham, where new challenger Beth Phillips raked in the most votes in a contested school board race, and voters shot down a $2,000 budget increase for the local library.
