A New Jersey man was killed yesterday when his car, which was stopped in the northbound passing lane on the New York State Thruway, was struck from behind. From the New York State Police:
State Police responded to a two vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 7:39 PM on the northbound side of the New York State Thruway in the Town of Coxsackie, Greene County.
A 2010 Volkswagen operated by ARTHUR MOYA, age 51, of Raritan, NJ was apparently stopped, in the northbound passing lane, when it was struck in the rear by a 2007 BMW operated by ANDREW SHANNAHAN, age 30, of New York, NY that was traveling north in the passing lane. MR. MOYA was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Greene County Coroner. MR. SHANNAHAN was transported by Coxsackie Ambulance to the Albany Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Investigation of the collision is ongoing.
The northbound lanes of the New York State Thruway, between the Catskill and Coxsackie interchanges, were closed and traffic detoured for approximately two hours as a result of the incident.
