Last we heard, Liberty's free-movies-in-the-park series had been shut down because nobody bothered to get a license from the film-rights company. Then some good Samaritans chipped in to buy the movie rights so it could go on.
Now, it seems, some overzealous Liberty food vendor has crashed the party, and the series has been shut down again.
The local vendor was told that he could not sell his food in the park due to a licensing issue, but he refused to leave. The organizer had to cancel the movie. Families and young children left very disappointed.
The organizers have worked very hard to bring back the movies so it is disheartening that a local business would not cooperate.
There couldn't possibly be more to this story, could there? From the comments on a recent LibertyIndy item on the movie series' abrupt demise, it looks like maybe the owner of Floyd and Bobo's Bakery, a sponsor of the movie series, is spitting mad about the whole thing, and venting a lot of all-caps fury in all directions. Commenter "lpetraglia" writes:
I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT NEXT WEEK'S MOVIE "BABE PIG IN THE CITY" WILL ALSO NOT BE SHOWN DUE TO THE LACK OF RESPECT FOR SATURDAY NIGHT " MOVIES IN THE PARK". THE POWERS THAT BE DID NOT CONSIDER ALL ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PROJECT AND MOVED FORWARD WITH THEIR AGENDA WITHOUT CONSULTING THOSE WHO PUT MOVIE NIGHT TOGETHER (BTW ALL THESE NIGHTS WERE PERMITTED).
