(9/6) Jay Ungar & Molly Mason, Blues Maneuver, and Horseshoe Lounge Playboys live at the West Kortright Fair 2015!

The West Kortright Centre presents its 10th Annual West Kortright Fair on Sunday, September 6, from noon-6PM. Admission is $5.00 per person and children under 10 are free. Highlights of the 2015 Fair include a silent auction, rummage sale, benefit art exhibit group show, Wacky Wendy’s whimsical papercraft hats, a multitude of quality local artisans, children’s activities by Oneonta World of Learning, family obstacle course by Body by Stacy, a family portrait photographer, pie-eating contest, local food for sale until 4PM (takeout available from 4-5PM), & more.

This event features live music under the big tent all afternoon, starting at 12:15PM with local “roots” music favorites, the Horseshoe Lounge Playboys. The HLP play original and traditional backwoods Americana material and have performed concerts with many musical icons, including The Levon Helm Band, Arlo Gutherie and his band and Steve Earle.

At 2:15PM, The WKC welcomes one of the most celebrated duos on the American acoustic music scene– Jay Ungar & Molly Mason from Saugerties, NY. These extraordinary musicians won international acclaim with their performance of Jay’s haunting composition Ashokan Farewell, featured on Ken Burns’ landmark PBS documentary The Civil War; the soundtrack won a Grammy and their song was nominated for an Emmy. Jay & Molly appeal to all ages with their timeless renditions of hard-driving Appalachian melodies, Cajun and Celtic fiddle tunes, stirring Civil War classics, sassy songs from the golden age of swing and country, stunning waltzes, and moving original works.

At 4:30PM, The Blues Maneuver Band performs their rousing eclectic repertoire of tunes from 1940s and onward, including a vast selection of Motown, classic R&B, oldies and swing.  Blues Maneuver has been one of the Catskill region's premier special event bands for more than a decade. This seven-piece ensemble combines top-notch musicianship, impeccable vocal harmonies and a mighty horn section. Their set will be preceded by a juried opening act, The Onlys, as part of the West Kortright Centre Young Artist Showcase. Formed in early 2015, The Onlys are an indie rock, pop, jazz band made up of young Schoharie County musicians - Angie Lorence (18) on guitar and vocals, Zack Nickel (16) on percussion, Owen Nied (17) on lead guitar and vocals, and Zoe Stinson (16) on saxophone and keyboards. Each of The Onlys are accomplished musicians with experience performing solo or in various rock, jazz and/or classical ensembles.
This year’s family-friendly West Kortright Fair is sponsored by The Daily Star, Townsquare Media, Center for Agricultural Development & Entrepreneurship (CADE), and Pure Catskills. As part of The Centre’s ongoing 40th Anniversary celebration, anyone who turns 40 in 2015 can come to any event for free.
