Orquesta SCC’s acronym stands for Salsa Con Conciencia (salsa music with conscience), but what exactly does this mean? Simply put, Grammy-award winning producer, Aaron Levinson for the New York Times said, “They are going back to the more eclectic period when salsa was street music, playing with spirit and integrity.” This 11-piece band is dedicated to recreating the genuine Latin style and sound without the restraints of unnecessary traditions such as the donning of the suit-and-tie uniform of yesteryear salsa players. Orquesta SCC is the real deal. By staying true to their original conception of building on lyrical themes that consider issues and complexities of our modern day society, this orchestra continues to grow in rapid successions, building upon what is already an enormous world-wide fan base.
Orquesta SCC members include founder Jose Vazquez-Cofresi on congas; Edwin Perez on lead vocals; Jorge Bringas Tres on contra-bass, chorus and conductor; Yuniel Jimenez on guitar and chorus; David Friman on piano; Charles Dilone on bongos and cowbell; Manuel "Manny" Alejandro Carro on timbales; Rey David on trombone; Raul Navarrete on trombone; Chris Sanchez on trumpet; and Samuel Barretto on trumpet.
Orquesta SCC is sponsored by the Sluiter Agency Inc. All programs offered by the Roxbury Arts Group are supported by the New York State Council on the Arts, the A. Lindsay and Olive B.
