Western Catskills Community Revitalization Council, Inc. (WCCRC) is pleased to announce that a new staff member has joined the long-established 501(c) (3) not-for-profit Rural Preservation Company.
The hiring of new Rehabilitation Specialist, Greg Eaton of Oneonta will help WCCRC efficiently manage the programs they are administering in the eighteen towns they serve. Along with having served in the US Army, Mr. Eaton has experience in supervising construction projects. Mr. Eaton will be responsible for site supervision of the many construction projects WCCRC is involved with.
WCCRC will be hosting a contractors’ informational meeting on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Community Room at the Stamford Village Apartments (125 Main Street) in the Village of Stamford. This will be a great opportunity for contractors to meet Mr. Eaton and other staff members. WCCRC would like to thank the numerous contractors who have been part of their revitalization team in the past, and to welcome new contractors who may be interested in becoming part of this group.
WCCRC is also sending out a call for additional qualified contractors to add to their approved contractor list. Working in southern Schoharie, western Greene and northern Delaware counties, they work with many general contractors and specialists in the construction field. As a participant in many state funded grants, WCCRC has also been directed to reach out to MBE/WBEs in the region and encourage them to bid on the rehabilitation projects which they manage for various state agencies.
Since 1981, WCCRC’s mission has been to cooperate with local, state and federal governmental and civic bodies in aiding, assisting and fostering the planning, development, renewal, and improvement of housing and other buildings in the counties of Delaware, Schoharie and Greene, for the primary purpose of revitalizing communities and in securing improved housing, commercial buildings and community facilities.
Judy Klem of Jefferson, who is a WCCRC client, says about her contractor, “[He] is a very hard worker who likes to see his work done well. He is meticulous with details that show up in a beautiful vinyl siding and roofing job that I love and get many compliments from neighbors. He aims to please and works hard to really listen and effectively communicate. I was very pleased with the speed and competency of his plumbing work. I have confidence that he can build decks, docks, replace windows and plan on hiring him in the future. I have recommended him to my best friend. He understands and works very well on old houses.”
WCCRC has over fifteen open grant programs that are dedicated primarily to construction work in its tri-county service area. Due to the volume of work that is expected in the construction field because of several new grant awards, WCCRC invites MBE/WBE businesses to apply to be on their approved contractor list.
As part of the information and application package that is distributed to clients, WCCRC provides interested parties with a list of approved contractors (architects, engineers, construction companies, plumbers, electricians, etc.) to execute improvements. State and Federal regulations require that public monies are only spent on companies that carry liability and worker’s compensation insurance. If you are interested in working with WCCRC, attend this event and find out what all this means.
If you would like to learn more about WCCRC or its programs, or if you think you would be eligible to register your business as a MBE/WBE, please contact Program Director Michael Martin at WCCRC at 607-652-2823, extension 101 or info@westerncatskills.org for more information.
