You may already be aware that bald eagles occupy the Catskills, but what about Golden Eagles? This bird makes its way through the Catskills during the winter on its way to Canada. Unlike its patriotic look-a-like, it hunts after mostly land-based prey, rather than prey in streams. We’ll be talking to Tom Salo & Peg DiBenedetto from the Delaware Otsego Audubon Society. WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
Maple sugaring season is over for me; temperatures are slightly warmer at the lower elevation where my sugarbush is located. It was a short and sweet season. It began late and ended on time. The sugar contents were above average; therefore reducing the theory that seed mast the previous growing season leads to lower sugar contents in the spring. It goes to show that this sugaring business always keeps you guessing. But, if we knew everything, how fun would that be?
