Excitement is building on the farms, in the village and throughout the valleys as GREATER MAYWOOD RURAL COMMUNITY SERVICES prepares to open its doors for its FIRST public event at the new COMMUNITY CENTER housed in the former Sidney Center Elementary School building, which was recently purchased by the non-profit group.
A FREE PICNIC with hot-dogs, hamburgers and live entertainment will be offered on Saturday, July 23rd from noon till 4:00 p.m on the center grounds. Bring your lawn chair and celebrate the opening of a new chapter in the history of this beautiful rural area. The Center will open at noon, with plenty of FREE home cooked food for you and your family. There will be live entertainment, door prizes and raffles throughout the day. At 1:30pm Mary Francis-Perricone will delight the audience with songs from the 50's and 60's that will have you strolling down memory lane. At 2:00 p.m. the FRENCH WOODS ARTS FESTIVAL CABARET TROUPE will perform. This singing and dancing group of 20 young people from across the USA and the world are part of the FRENCH WOODS ARTS FESTIVAL, founded in 1970 outside Hancock, New York. French Woods is a world-renowned summer camp for young people with gifts for theater, orchestra, circus and the performing arts. This performance will be the first of an ongoing collaboration between the French Woods Festival and Greater Maywood Rural Community Services, bringing world-class entertainment to the center.
Tours of the entire facility will be available during the picnic. Relax, mingle with new friends—even join the All-ages Softball game out back. GMRCS has launched a MEMBERSHIP campaign with the goal of 100 new members by the end of the Picnic. $1.00 makes you a full member. Help us meet our goal!
