This 2017 “In Bloom” exhibition is celebrating the coming of spring green and flowers during the month of May and will begin Saturday, May 6 at 12pm noon, with reception lasting from 3-5.
Floral creations in the form of paintings & photographs will be presented by Rebeca Andre, Mary Davis and Alix Hallman Travis.
* Gallery owner and artist, Alix Hallman Travis has invited the Halcottsville photographer and poet, Rebecca Andre and Andes painter, Mary Overly Davis to join her in a colorful display of floral art work. The vibrant pieces will range from the reality of Andre’s photographs to the fanciful of Travis’s collage, all the way to Davis’s new abstractions.
* This arrangement of blossom artwork marks the Commons Gallery’s participation in the Spring on Main celebration on Main Street, Margaretville, Saturday, May 20. As you visit the festival exhibits, stores and vendors along Main Street, Margaretville stop in and smell the posies at the Commons Gallery, Commons Building, 785 Main Street, Margaretville. * About the artists:
* Andre is inspired by the images she captures with her lens to write poetry demonstrating her deep love for the Catskill Mountains and the people who live here. She is the owner of Mountain Girl Photography & Design, a reporter and a published poet. In the exhibition, her photographs will be accompanied by the poetry inspired by each piece.
* Davis is a longtime Andes resident who has settled here from Austin, TX. Retired from a fulltime career as an architect, Davis sought to add color to her creative life. She has found color, a lot of color, first in pastel and most recently applied in larger size and with oil. All, is of course influenced by our Catskill landscape.
* Travis is pleased to add her watercolors, watercolor collage, acrylic and oils to the mix. This particular selection of work was inspired by granddaughters playing in a stand of tiger lilies in full bloom and draws on earlier tiger lily paintings created over several summers.
