Open Eye Theater to Present Dylan Thomas's "A Child's Christmas in Wales"

This year’s winter holiday performance at The Open Eye Theater, in Margaretville, NY,  is “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” on Saturdays, December 12 and 19, and Sundays, December 20 and 27, all at 2:00 pm.  The beloved poem/story written in 1952, by Dylan Thomas, recollects events and traditions from the Christmases of the poet’s youth, peopled by friends, family, and neighbors in a small town in Wales, in the 1920s.

“It was always snowing at Christmas.”

“December, in my memory is white as Lapland, though there were no reindeers.”

“But there were cats.”

“Were there Uncles like in our house?”

“There are always Uncles at Christmas.”

The multi-generational ensemble of actors and musicians performing the poem and favorite Christmas carols are Patricia Brannen, Darlene DeMaille, Irene Kellogg, Erin McPherson, Roy F. Moses, Emma Rotella, Eli Taylor, Lillian Taylor, Marcy Thorn, and Madison Tobon.   Director is Amie Brockway; stage manager is Amy Taylor.  Erwin Karl has designed the set and lights, and Esther DeJong assists with costumes and props.

Welsh treats and other surprises await the audience at each Open Eye performance of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” 960 Main Street, Margaretville.  Tickets are $10.  Children accompanied by an adult are admitted free of charge, thanks to generous grants from the Hudson Valley Foundation for Youth Health and the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation.

Performances are at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 12; Saturday, December 19; Sunday, December 20; and Sunday, December 27.  Reservations are strongly suggested and appreciated.  For reservations or further information, phone 845-586-1660 or e-mail openeye@catskill.net.
