Highmount, NY - Crossroads Ventures, L.L.C., developers of the Belleayre Resort Project, announced today they have received regional and statewide endorsements for their resort proposal in to be located adjacent to the Belleayre Mountain Ski Center in western Ulster County.
Thus far, the Catskill Watershed Corporation, State Senator James Seward, and Congressman Chris Gibson have all expressed support towards the Belleayre Resort proposal. Also, local surrounding towns have sent letters of support to the DEC and officials.
“Given the significant positive economic impacts this project would have, the comprehensive review process already undertaken, and the support from many residents, local government entities, environmental groups, and the local business community, I would urge the Department of Environmental Conservation to complete its environmental review of the project so the region can begin to realize the economic benefits promised by the resort,” said Congressman Gibson in a letter to the DEC.
“The benefits of expanding two resort locations with a spa and championship golf course are clear – job opportunities will be created, tourism will surge in the Catskills and long-term economic growth will be realized in a critical region of upstate New York,” added Senator Seward in a letter to Regional Environmental Administrator Daniel Whitehead.
Adding their support to these officials was also the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council, where their President, L. Todd Diorio stated “The Belleayre Resort at Catskill Park will create the much needed economic spark Ulster and Delaware Counties need.” The union represents some 28 trades and 10,000 members.
Gary Gailes, from Crossroad Ventures L.L.C., thanked the officials, the CWC and organized labor for their show of support. “We are grateful for the new endorsements we have received for the Belleayre Resort project. We are now one step closer to bringing business and economic prosperity back to the Catskills. We look forward to more cooperation with local residents, businesses, and government officials in the future.”
Construction is still expected to commence in the second quarter of 2014. The resort will create over 500 full time and 200 seasonal jobs.
