Where to get real-time storm news

With major storms -- and tornadoes -- rolling into upstate New York this afternoon and evening, a lot of people across the Catskills are anxious to keep tabs on the weather.

(Here in New Kingston, we've still got mostly blue skies for now.)

Here are a few sources of real-time info that we are using to keep tabs on local weather.

Hudson Valley Weather. With savvy local weather news -- and over 11,000 readers who chime in to discuss what's happening across the region -- this Facebook page is a must-read for local weather mavens. Check back often for live, local updates.

NY Alert. This site is a clearinghouse for emergency messages from across New York State, including storm warnings and emergency updates from the National Weather Service. Check the site for new updates, or subscribe to get alerts tailored to your area.

Weather Channel Live Blog. The Weather Channel has a national audience, so they're taking a bird's-eye view of the storms. But they have a team of meteorologists tracking the storms' progress across the Northeast in real time. Here's an update from 4:13pm:

Tornado reported at 3:58pm in Elmira, New York. "Numerous trees down, numerous roofs off buildings, people trapped in vehicles" according to Nat'l Weather Service report.

Delhi webcam. We wish every town in the Catskills had a live webcam on Main Street. As of this post, Delhi, in central Delaware County, isn't showing any signs of blowing away. A few more local webcams: Windham Mountain, Hunter Mountain, New Paltz, Shandaken.

Twitter. We're polling our readers on Twitter about conditions on the ground where they are, and we'll keep you posted. Watch the hashtags #tornado or #stormwatch to see what other people in social-media-land are saying.

NWS radar. Check out the National Weather Service's real-time weather radar imagery.
