Shane TadrossAn state trooper who stopped to assist a pulled-over driver on the side of Rte. 20 in the Schoharie County town of Sharon stumbled into a treasure trove of psychedelic mushrooms on Tuesday night.
The driver of the car, 38-year-old Shane N. Tadross of Cooperstown, said that he had stopped to roll a cigarette when Trooper Adam Maggs approached him. But after Maggs noticed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle "in plain sight," he searched the car to find 27 mason jars containing the mushrooms. He also found nine ounces of pot and a switchblade, and the fact that Tadross was driving with a suspended license.

Trooper Adam Maggs, State Police Cobleskill, stopped to assist a motorist who had pulled over on Route 20 in the Town of Sharon, Tuesday evening, January 11, 2011. The operator explained that everything was alright and that he had just been rolling a cigarette. Trooper Maggs discovered that the operator, Shane N. Tadross, did not have a valid license and it was currently under suspension. In addition, the trooper observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle in plain sight. The vehicle was searched and the following items were discovered; nine ounces of marihuana, twenty-seven mason jars containing psychedelic mushrooms, and a switchblade.
Tadross , age 38, of Main Street in Cooperstown, NY, was arrested on the following charges:
Criminal Possession of Marihuana 3rd Degree,
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, and
Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree.
Operating a vehicle without a License.
Tadross was arraigned in the Town of Sharon Court and remanded to the Schoharie County Jail in lieu of $3,000 cash/ $9,000 bond. State police were assisted by the Schoharie County District Attorneys Office.
