After weeks of enthusiastic preparations, hordes of kids across Greene County celebrated the entrepreneurial spirit during "Lemonade Day" yesterday. The goal of the project, which had outposts across the country, is to teach kids the tenets of running a small business the fun way -- by encouraging them to start one for a day.
According to the Daily Mail, over 500 lemonade stands were in business yesterday, and no two were alike:
The entrepreneurial spirit was in full bloom Sunday. Each lemonade stand had unique qualities all their own, from distinct lemonade recipes, creative stand designs, additional perks or marketing techniques.
Jamie Olthoff, of Kiskatom, themed her colorful, psychedelic stand after the peace-loving 1960s, calling it “Peace, Love and Lemonade.” She setup her stand in front of the police department on Main Street in Catskill.
She offered original lemonade and pink lemonade for just 50 cents a cup, and had “groovy goodies” — candy and other treats — for only 25 cents each. She also did face-painting and offered pictures with a “hippy lemonhead” mask.
WGXC got thirsty and interviewed multiple lemonade purveyors yesterday, including the members of Girl Scout troupe #1917, who advertised their stand with a giant lemon. (Click here to listen to their interview.)
Lemonade Day organizer Bob Phibbs was very busy yesterday. He posted a bunch of photos of different stands on Facebook, and explained how he got them:
I drank 35+ cups of lemonade and visited as many of the 500 stands as possible.
