The Daily Mail is reporting this morning that a black bear cruising for tasty garbage attacked a Cairo women in her driveway yesterday afternoon. The woman, who is 53, hurt her back during the encounter, and was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment:
The woman told police she was knocked down by a black bear in her driveway at 51 Alpine Drive, according to officials. A garbage container was knocked over and trash was strewn about into a wooded area near the home ...
Rick Georgeson, a spokesman with the state Department of Environmental Conservation, said the woman had re-injured her back after being knocked down by the animal. It was unclear whether she had suffered any lacerations.
Environmental conservation officers could not locate the animal when they arrived on the scene, he said.
