In a race that's garnered national attention, U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-Hurley, was leading Republican George Phillips for the 22nd Congressional District seat, just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.
With 45 percent of the districts reporting, Hinchey was leading with about 53 percent of the votes, according to early election results.
"As results trickle in, we remain optimistic about the outcome of this election," Hinchey spokesman Mike Morosi said in an e-mailed statement just before 11 p.m.
