The EPA is in the early stages of conducting a massive study on the risks of hydraulic fracturing, and they'll be holding a series of four public meetings in shale gas hotspots around the country to get public input. On the schedule: a meeting in Binghamton, scheduled for August 12.
Stakeholders on all sides of the issue — landowners, industry representatives and environmentalists — plan to attend and offer their input on the study.
"It's a recognition that Broome County is at the center of this potential activity," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, D-Endwell.
**8/9/2010 UPDATE: This meeting has abruptly been moved to Syracuse.
