Rte. 28 between Hurley and Andes already has a new name: the Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway. And now, the Central Catskills Collaborative is hosting a design contest to come up with a logo for the route.
Anyone who is unsatisfied with the new logo for Catskill Park that was issued earlier this spring (at left), this is your chance to put something on a road sign that you really like.

Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway logo contest seeks entries
MARGARETVILLE, Nov. 22, 2010 – Artists and graphic designers take note: The Central Catskills Collaborative (CCC) is seeking logo designs to illustrate the scenic, historical recreational and cultural assets of New York State Route 28 between Hurley and Andes.
The Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway logo contest carries a $100 cash prize for the designer of the winning logo, which may be used on signs, promotional materials and official documents for the proposed 45-mile scenic byway.
Logo submissions are due February 14, 2011. Six finalists will be announced on March 1, and the winning entry will be announced on March 17. The logos of the six finalists will be displayed this spring in the Erpf Gallery at The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development in Arkville.
The contest is open to residents of the four counties of the Catskill Park (Ulster, Delaware, Greene, and Sullivan). Entries must be submitted in pdf or jpg format, in both color and grayscale, at 300 dpi and created as vector art (that is, scaleable to any size without distortion). The CCC is preparing a nomination for submission to the New York State Scenic Byways Program and Advisory Board to officially recognize Route 28 as a road corridor of regionally outstanding scenic, natural, recreational, cultural, or historic significance. The proposed route of the Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway runs from the hamlet of West Hurley westerly through the Towns of Hurley, Olive, Shandaken, Middletown, and Andes, and the Villages of Margaretville, and Fleischmanns,
The proposed route also includes the majority of Route 28A, from the hamlet of West Hurley to the hamlet of Boiceville along the south side of the Ashokan Reservoir, plus a section of Route 214 connecting the proposed Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway with the proposed Mountain Cloves Scenic Byway in the Town of Hunter. Sections of Old Route 28 through the hamlets of Phoenicia and Pine Hill and the Village of Fleischmanns, are also included in the proposed scenic route.
