Three vehicles were involved in a fiery accident on Rte. 145 in East Durham on Friday, but everyone survived, thanks partially to the efforts of five bystanders and a bunch of fire extinguishers, the Daily Mail reports.
Yesterday, the DM interviewed a few of the Good Samaritans who saved one of the crash victims from his burning truck:
Gil Dayton, 54, a disabled former truck driver, along with a man named Wayne Cole, were credited with pulling a victim from his engulfed truck. The victim, who hasn’t been identified, is believed to be recovering.
“The smoke was so black,” Dayton said Friday night in an interview. “This guy would’ve burned to death.”
The DM has an update on the crash today as well:
The most seriously injured was Erasmo Sinno of White Plains, who was also cited in the incident. State Police said Sinno, who was flown to Albany Medical Center, was in critical condition and has been charged with failure to keep right and driving across hazard markings. Police alleged Sinno was driving southbound in the northbound lane, sideswiping one vehicle and then hitting another head on.
